UNIVERSITY DESIGN WORKSHOP VII
In this workshop the student needed to do many things to create a massive apartment project using and studying how a big city works. They needed to create a housing project with open spaces, with both green spaces and without, and with commercial businesses inside the apartment complex. They also needed to understand and discover many difficult design and urbanization issues surrounding the terrain-block. In some cases, specifically, the block had a view to the ocean, and others not.
In the first 2 or 3 weeks, the architecture workshop focused on how urbanism works and what things are needed to start a big housing project, as well as understanding the big relation between the city itself and what happens inside of it.
We used different instruments to work and we let the students apply what they thought and wanted after the urban study and investigation.
UNIVERSITY DESIGN WORKSHOP VI
The students worked on a project but out of the big city of Lima. In this case we decided to work in the Andean city of Cajamarca in the north of Perú. Some workshops worked on a city library but they needed to understand and know how to work in an old city, including the kind of elements were needed to be maintained in the place and what others can be used for the new project. Every student worked on a personal and unique project for the entire semester but the first three weeks they studied the city and the urban situation.
They used different elements to develop their own projects, such as models, plans, writing, and any other kind of element that they felt comfortable to analyse the city and help to create the first ideas of a project.
UNIVERSITY DESIGN VERTICAL WORKSHOP V + VI
It was a very nice experience making a design workshop with two different workshop levels. Here we were expected to interact with the students, and that created an interesting atmosphere of creativity. In this time we made three different architectural programs and the students, after they made the urban study, decided what kind of project they wanted to do and why. At this point, the students made an exposition and explained why the city of Piura, and especially the area of the river, needed that project.
UNIVERSITY DESIGN VERTICAL WORKSHOP I + II
These workshops were my first contact with the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Perú and we taught human dimensions or how humans create their own spaces with their movements. The students tried to make an approximation to the sequence of movement of people and how they created spaces for living or doing something. Within that idea, the student made with their own hands some structures 1/1 for some activities.
The student also made more handwork than drawing plans because they needed to understand how the space moved inside a structure and how we can alter that.
